Russia: Intravenous Drug Use Leading Cause of HIV/AIDS

Posted by aidsfiction on September 21, 2008

This Global Voices article discusses AIDS in Russia.  The article mentions that the majority of AIDS cases come from intravenous drug users.  No one seems to make the real connection that it is DRUGS that is killing people.

“Certain parts of Russia are plagued by HIV/AIDS outbreaks as a result of people sharing syringes and needles. The problem is so serious that the World Health Organization has tabbed Russia as the nation with the worst HIV/AIDS epidemic in all of Europe, encompassing nearly a million infected people. VOANews.com cites ‘intravenous drug use, especially among young people’ as the primary vehicle causing the rapid infection to continue and worsen with each passing year. Moscow and St. Petersburg are believed to be the most heavily impacted areas.”

Combining TB, HIV treatments saves lives

Posted by aidsfiction on September 18, 2008

This article suggests combining TB with HIV treatments.  Sometimes people forget that it is TB that killing people.

A SOUTH African treatment study has shown that mortality among tuberculosis (TB) and HIV co-infected patients could be reduced by 55 percent, if antiretroviral therapy (ART) was provided with TB treatment.
University of KwaZulu-Natal Professor Salim Karim made the announcement at a media briefing in Durban yesterday.
He said a trial which had started in June 2005 showed mortality could be reduced among co-infected TB-HIV patients.
During the trial, the progress of TB-HIV co-infected patients who received ART together with their TB treatment, was compared to that of patients assigned to receive ART after TB treatment.
“The study shows that integrating TB and HIV treatment and care saves lives,” said Karim.

CDC continues to pull statistics out of its ass

Posted by aidsfiction on September 12, 2008

Another report from the CDC on the spread of HIV.

There were more new HIV infections in young black MSM (13-29 year olds) than any other age/racial group of MSM. The number of new infections among young black MSM was about double that of whites and of Hispanics (5,220 infections in blacks compared to 3,330 in whites and 2,300 in Hispanics).

These statistics for women are even more absurd. Black women seem to be much more likely to contract HIV than white or Hispanic women.  This statistic alone invalidates the HIV=AIDS theory.  Clearly AIDS is a function of drug abuse and not a function of a virus.

The new analysis also gives more detail on the impact of HIV among men and women in different racial groups. It may help to understand why African Americans, who represent only 12 percent of the total US population, represented 45 percent of new HIV infections in the United States in 2006. For example:* Black women are far more affected by HIV than women of other races: 15 times higher incidence rate than white women and nearly 4 times higher than Hispanic women (55.7 per 100,000 population among black women compared with 3.8 among white women and 14.4 among Hispanic women).

Common herpes drug could help fight HIV: study

Posted by aidsfiction on September 11, 2008

The National Post reports that a herpes drug could fight HIV.  Yes, more snake oil:

A cheap, generic drug long used to treat herpes may also help control the AIDS virus, U.S. researchers reported Wednesday. They found that acyclovir can work against HIV, but only in tissues that are also infected with herpes. The findings, published in the journal Cell Host & Microbe, help explain why some studies have shown that people taking acyclovir have lower levels of HIV, yet others show that taking acyclovir does not prevent infection with the AIDS virus.

The herpes virus itself changes the drug into a form that can work against HIV, said Dr. Leonid Margolis of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, who helped lead the study.

“If you suppress herpes, HIV also goes down,” Dr. Margolis said in a telephone interview. ….

US AID puts $100 million toward AIDS gel research

Posted by aidsfiction on September 9, 2008

Reuters reports on the US funding a $100 million dollars project for people who are too dumb or lazy to use a condom:

“Agency for International Development has offered $100 million to the Eastern Virginia Medical School to work on a gel that might protect men and women from the AIDS virus, the school said on Monday. The money, $20 million a year for five years, will be used to help pay for trials of several so-called microbicides — gels or creams that could be applied vaginally or rectally to protect people from infection.   While several experimental microbicides have failed, the team at Eastern Virginia Medical School’s CONRAD program is working on two using HIV drugs: Gilead Sciences Inc’s tenofovir and an experimental drug called UC781.

An estimated 33 million people have HIV, mostly in Africa. More than 60 percent of Africans with HIV are women who were infected by their husbands or other male sexual partners.

Most of the 2 million people who get HIV every year globally are women. Condoms prevent infection but many men refuse to use them. Experts say women, and some men, need a private way to protect themselves. …..”

Compound From Olive-Pomace Oil Inhibits HIV Spread

Posted by aidsfiction on September 9, 2008

Science Daily reported that researchers from the University of Granada and Hospital Carlos III in Madrid  believe that olive oil inhibits the HIV virus.  Ah yes, we must come up with more theories to explain why the HIV virus does not effect everyone the same like all other well understood viruses:

Researchers from the University of Granada and Hospital Carlos III in Madrid, verified that maslinic acid – found in wax from olive skin – inhibits serin-protease, the enzyme used by HIV to release itself from the infected cell into the extracellular environment.
Olive oil has become part of the fight against the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) – the cause of AIDS – thanks to the research carried out by the Bionat team, from the University of Granada, headed by Prof. Andrés García-Granados, senior lecturer in Organic Chemistry. Their work shows that maslinic acid – a natural product extracted from dry olive-pomace oil in oil mills – inhibits serin-protease, an enzyme used by HIV to release itself from the infected cell into the extracellular environment and, consequently, to spread the infection into the whole body. These scientists from Granada determined that the use of olive-pomace oil can produce an 80% slowing down in AIDS spreading in the body. ….”

Threat of world Aids pandemic among heterosexuals is over, report admits

Posted by aidsfiction on September 8, 2008

The World Health Organization finally admitted that AIDS will not be a pandemic in the heterosexual world.  Huh, HIV is not going to decimate Russia and China as originally predicted yet the WHO still claims that African heterosexual is out of control:

“A quarter of a century after the outbreak of Aids, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has accepted that the threat of a global heterosexual pandemic has disappeared.”

Kevin de Cock, the head of the WHO’s department of HIV/Aids said there will be no generalized epidemic of Aids in the heterosexual population outside Africa.

One of these days the WHO will finally learn that HIV is an insignificant virus and that there are cofactors that cause immune system disorders (drugs, unsafe water, malnutrition, malaria, AZT and other toxic anti-viral medications, etc.).

These WHO knuckleheads still talk about circumcision as helping prevent infection.  In the western world, circumcision is only common in the USA.  It as if these dolts don’t understand math.  The WHO refuses to admit their theories have more holes than Swiss cheese.

Roman Empire ‘raised HIV threat’

Posted by aidsfiction on September 7, 2008

Here is another absurd theory posted by the BBC trying to explain why AIDS seems to behave differently among different ethnicities:

“The claim, by French researchers, is that people once ruled by Rome
are less likely to have a gene variant which protects against HIV.

This includes England, France, Greece and Spain, New Scientist reports.

Others argue the difference is linked to a far larger event, such as the spread of bubonic plague or smallpox.

The idea that something carried by the occupying Romans could have a widespread influence on the genes of modernEuropeans comes from researchers at the University of Provence. …”

Why blog about AIDS

Posted by aidsfiction on September 7, 2008

I am writing this blog because I believe the study of AIDs is unscientific and downright farcical.  Almost everyday there is a new headline describing another absurd theory with no supporting data.

Sadly the CDC has no credibiility.  The current AIDS/HIV theory has enormous statistical holes.  One hole is that AIDS is a disease that effects both males and females equally while it is primarily a gay mans disease in the US.

Each week I see at least 5 dumb articles with a new theory on AIDS/HIV and have finally decided to document them.

This is just a start and I plan to update as often as possible.
